Run Down Under

Run Down Under was the first country to be added to Run The World – a concept that originated in 2014. The original map covers 14,080kms and passes through 98 towns and every state and territory of Australia. An additional map is unlocked once you have completed this journey with a further 15,490kms to tick off. Upload your structured runs and walks to our App and we will track you on an educational, interactive and engaging journey.

Milestones

Sydney 286km

Millions of tourists come to Sydney each year to see the city's natural features that include Sydney Harbour, the Royal National Park, Bondi Beach, and the Royal Botanic Gardens. Man-made attractions such as the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge are also well known to visitors.

Brisbane 1,244km

Named after the Brisbane River on which it is located, the city has hosted several large cultural, international and sporting events, including the 1982 Commonwealth Games, World Expo '88, the final Goodwill Games in 2001, and the 2014 G-20 summit

Katherine 4,306km

Often called the 'Crossroads of the North' because of its location, Katherine is the fourth largest town in the NT and a modern thriving regional centre that offers a wide range of services to communities from the Western Australian border to the Gulf of Carpentaria on the Queensland border.

Perth 8,140km

Visit Australia's sunniest capital city and you'll experience more than just amazing sunsets over the ocean. Perth effortlessly blends urban cool with raw natural beauty and makes the perfect base for your unique Western Australian experience.

Adelaide 11,450km

A city that lives well beyond its conveniently designed square mile epicentre, flowing seamlessly into world-famous wine and food regions such as Barossa, just an hour's drive north, or coastal escapes in the Fleurieu or Yorke Peninsula. You'll be spoilt for choice.

Melbourne 12,328km

Home of the Tram, the Hook Turn, The MCG, the most liveable city tag and the economic hub of Australia. Melbourne is renowned for running events - there are not too many weekends where a fun run or major event isn't on - so there are no excuses here.

Burnie 13,043km

Burnie's hills hide impressive gardens and parks, and it is surrounded by beautiful beaches, sparkling water and fresh air. But there is no escaping the presence of a busy container port, the rail hub or the factory framework lining the highway around Emu Bay on the eastern approach to Burnie.

Finish 14,080km

Best known for its harbourfront Sydney Opera House, Massive Darling Harbour, the smaller Circular Quay port, the arched Harbour Bridge and esteemed Royal Botanic Gardens... it will also be known as the end of your 14,080km journey.

Did you know?

  • Australia is an island. In fact, it is the biggest island in the world. Apart from being an island, it is also a continent, but it is the smallest of all the continents in the world. Australia is the 6th biggest country in the world.
  • 20 of the top 25 most venomous snakes come from Australia. In fact, the first 11 are all from Australia.
  • The Great Barrier Reef is the longest reef and the largest living thing in the world. It is 2,010 kms long and is so big it can be seen from space.
  • The longest fence in the world, referred to as the Dingo Fence, runs for 5,531 kilometres through Queensland and South Australia.
  • The national coat of arms of Australia has an emu and a kangaroo on it. This is because neither of these animals can walk backwards, symbolizing a nation moving forward.

Milestones

Uluru 16,950km

Probably Australia’s best-known natural landmark. The ancient monolith was created over some 600 million years. It originally sat at the bottom of a sea, but today stands 348m above ground.

Exmouth 19,802km

One of the few areas in Australia that can boast the Range to Reef experience. You can hike through walk trails and gorges offering some of the best views in the west, or indulge in some relaxing at pristine sandy beaches with crystal clear turquoise waters.

Darwin 23,247km

Australia's only tropical capital city, the capital of the Northern Territory is closer to Bali than Bondi. Nature is well and truly part of Darwin's backyard − the famous national parks of Kakadu and Litchfield are only a few hours' drive away, and the unique Tiwi Islands are a boat-ride away.

Bamaga 26,568km

Welcome to the TOP of Australia! If you jog an extra 30km to Cape York, you will be at the most northern point of Australia - a bucket list trip for many Aussies.

Brisbane 29,570km

Australia’s most underrated city is a perfect location to finish lap number 2 of Australia. An energetic river town on the way up, with an edgy arts scene, pumping nightlife, lush parks and historic buildings… all folded into the elbows of the meandering Brisbane River.
